Title of Artifact: Grading Procedures & Class Expectations Date: _August, 2000

ALIGNMENT REFLECTION
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment

This artifact primarily addresses Standard 8: Assessment. With this document, students clearly understand how their grades are devised, and how their class participation impacts their grades.

This artifact secondarily addresses Standard 2: Development; Standard 8: Diversity; Standard 4: Strategies; and Standard 6: Communication. The grading procedures accommodate diversity and special needs. Students demonstrate their understanding of the procedures and expectations by completing a list of related questions while this initial discussion takes place. I keep this paper the whole year so that I have proof that the students understood clearly what was expected of them and how their resulting grades may be affected.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment

I believe this artifacts best aligns with KSD2b: Establishes a Culture for Learning. I believe that the best tool for establishing a culture for learning is to make it clear to the students what is expected of them. This artifact provides students with that information.

This alignment secondarily addresses the following KDS Standards:
1. KSD1f. Assesses Student Learning
2. KSD2a. Creates an Environment of Respect and Rapport
3. KSD2d. Manages Student Behavior
4. KSD2e. Organizes Physical Space
5. KSD3d. Provides Feedback to Students
6. KSD4b.Maintains Accurate Records

PERSONAL REFLECTION
What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience:

I have learned that the first two days of instruction are the most important days of the year, as it is the time in which the teacher needs to take the opportunity to create a climate of learning by providing students with information on class procedures and grading.

What I learned about myself as an educator as a result of this experience/artifact:
rI have learned as an educator to take the importance of making class expectations very clear to my students and important task at the onset of the school year. Likewise, I think it is important to share the same list with parents, and demonstrate specifically how their children have been informed of the same. I have relied several times on the "contract" students complete as we discuss classroom rules, grading, and expectations. There is usually little room for misunderstand between the student, their parents, and myself as a result.
