Title
of Artifact: Tech Ed Mission and Goals
Date: _May, 2002 |
| DESCRIBE
ARTIFACT |
|
This artifact outlines the specific Mission and Goals for
the Technology Education program at Marshall Middle School.
I drafted the document my first year as Chairperson of my
department, in 2001, when it became apparent that the old
goals needed revising, as they still applied to a more traditional
Industrial Arts type of program. In May of 2002, I revised
the document once again, to satisfy the needs of the "Teaching
Technology Education" graduate class I was taking.

Wisconsin
Teacher Standard Alignment |
|
|
This
artifact primarily addresses Standard 7: Planning. I believe
this artifact primarily addresses this standard because setting
a mission and goals for the program curriculum creates a clear
plan for achievement through that curriculum.
This
artifact secondarily addresses Standard 1: Content; Standard
2: Development; and Standard 10: Collaboration. The mission
and goals incorporate subject area content into the plan,
which helps to develop a set of expectations and achievements.
Collaboration with my colleagues was necessary in coming together
with an idea of the goals of our program. |

Alignment |
|
|
I
believe this artifacts best aligns with KSD1c: Selects Instructional
Goals. The Mission and Goals statement identifies the global
instructional goals of the program along with a description
of specific technology modules they will complete. A statement
of expected student objectives is included..
This
alignment secondarily addresses the following KDS Standards:
1. KSD1e. Designs Coherent Instruction |

What
I learned about teaching/learning from this experience: |
|
|
I learned that my view of
what I felt were the most important goals were a little different
than those of my colleagues, yet not far removed. Together
we were able to come together in our mission statement, and
also set common goals of our program. Additionally, this activity
required a re-visiting of state standards in technology, which
is always a good reminder of what are students are expected
to learn by the time they leave middle school. |
|
|
|
|
What
I learned about myself as an educator as a result of
this experience/artifact: |
|
|
I learned that I tend to be
more interested in how students will apply their knowledge to
the outside world than my colleagues. They tend to concentrate
more on achieving comprehension. I think together our differing
views created a better plan than I might have created on my
own. |
